How to Break in a New Glove
Just got a brand new glove, I got it from Rawlings. I put in on my Christmas list and it just arrived today!!! Just like a kid opening a Tonka truck thats what I was like opening up my glove.
A customized red and black glove with my name on it for Christmas.
Wow, it’s stiff and hard to squeeze but thats normal when you buy a really good glove. The BIG question is … How do you Break it in?
What are the best practices to break in a new glove?
You can go online and find hundreds of ways to break it in. I don’t know which of them works the best but I would imagine they all work to some degree. All I know is that I highly recommend the old school way …
A pitching machine and playing catch. Whack, Whack, and Whack!
I use Barbosol lotion which is the old school shaving cream. Keep it away from the strings and just put it on the leather. Rub it in really well and that softens it up so when I play catch I can mold it the way I want it.
Here are some other ways I have heard of to break in a glove …
- Lotion
- Shaving Cream
- Machine
- Play Catch
- Microwave
- Submerge in water
- Barbosal lotion
I hope watching this video helps answer some questions and makes you breaking in of a glove a much easier process. All I can tell you is that the harder it is to break in the better the glove.
